Defining The Visual Brand

Based on the design characteristics, I audited the existing visual brand to better align to the company’s long term goals and value proposition. I then documented the new brand style in the brand guidelines.

Visual Brand Before

Visual Brand After

Below are the key design characteristics of Cognitive’s visual brand:

Professional

Simplicity: This enhances clarity, maintains consistency, and reduces cognitive load to achieve a versatile and attention-to-detail-focused appearance.

Consistency: This establishes a unified visual identity and conveys a sense of reliability in materials or presentations.

High quality imagery: Quality stock imagery enhances visual appeal, conveys credibility, and leaves a positive lasting impression on the audience.

Visual hierarchy: Prioritizing key elements through variations in size, colour, and placement to guide viewer attention effectively.

Approachable

Colour palette: A cool-tone and inviting colour palette helps create fun and approachable designs. Colours also act as a tool to help explain new and difficult concepts.

Rounded shapes: Using circles and rounded edges creates a friendly, pleasant, and tech-forward look.

Images of people and families: Smiling and friendly faces naturally create a sense of warmth and approachability.

Illustrative characters: Playful illustrated characters are utilized in different graphics, diagrams, videos, and use cases to explain complex concepts and ideas.

Intentional

Understanding the audience: This allows creating emotionally resonant visuals by maintaining consistency, fostering a strong and lasting connection with the target market.

Colour usage: Shades of light grey are utilized in infographic backgrounds to ensure important brightly-coloured elements in the foreground stand out.

White space: This helps draw the viewer’s attention to the most important elements in a design.

Avoid “over-designing”: Consistently audit all elements of designs to ensure nothing unnecessary has been added that distracts from the core message.
